REVIEW: Sprig Restaurant and Bar, Decatur
We’ve got a guy in our office who RAVES (yes, raves) about Sprig Restaurant and Bar. Melanie and I reviewed it several years ago and agreed – we liked it. Same guy five years later – he still loves Sprig Restaurant and Bar. Yep, I had to check them out again, just to see if they are still rocking it.
Angel and I took a long lunch and headed out to Decatur to visit Sprig. The first thing we noticed was its right next door to Frazier-Rowe Park, a very cool small park that makes for a nice stroll before or after a meal. They have a nice outdoor seating area and it’s a casual, welcoming atmosphere.
We had the coolest server and the meal was off to an exciting start with an appetizer of Stone Ground Cheese Grit Fries. Although they were described to us as similar to mozarella sticks, they were much lighter than that. Don’t be dismayed wondering “how will I eat all of these before the meal”, because they are so light and fluffy they go down really easy. The cajun tomato sauce that accompanies it is very mild and can be enjoyed by a wide variety of palates.
Angel had the Classic Sprig Burger with fries. He liked the burger and thought the shoestring fries were great. I ordered the Lamb Stroganoff. Doing research for the story, I spotted it on the menu two days in advance. Yes, I’d been waiting for this dish two days, tasting it in my mind. Oh, how I love it when a dish is even better than I had imagined. I’m not sure whether it was the lamb or something in the sauce, but the flavors in this entrée were incredibly complex and enjoyable. For our lunch, Sprig hit a home run and the only thing we had to worry about was how we were going to stay awake the rest of the afternoon.
Sprig Restaurant and Bar serves it up right – lunch or dinner. The staff was over-the-top friendly and kind. The food was fantastic and we had an awesome time. Guten appetit!
