REVIEW: Transmetropolitan, Athens

Transmetropolitan, Athens

What’s more collegial in Athens than pizza? Not much! Transmetropolitan has been one of our “go to” spots over the years and it’s hard to believe that we haven’t written about them since 2011 [Read our review on Transmetropolitan, Mar 26 2011]. Since then, they’ve had extensive remodeling done and the place looks marvelous!

It was late for lunch but a little early for dinner when we were seated on a Saturday afternoon. Athens was full of kids returning from Spring Break, many of whom had parents in tow looking for a good meal and had wondered into Transmetropolitan. We quickly ordered a large pizza with extra cheese and Italian sausage, hoping to get our order in before the other waiting patrons.

We got started with salads and, true to form, they were excellent. They have this fantastic mix of greens and the dressings are really good. I got a Caesar Salad and Melanie got the Garden Salad with Ranch. The salads here are ALWAYS good and we look forward to having one before we have our pizza.

Our pizza arrived soon and it took us by surprise just how big a 16 inch pizza really is! They were shy about the mozzarella and it was hot enough where the mozzarella is stringy when you pull a piece out of the pie. Our readers know what fans we are about having food served hot and this was perfection! The pizza tasted great and we had plenty to take home. We have tried ordering single pieces before, but resist this temptation. The single serving slices have never come out as good as ordering a whole pizza pie. Just a tip!

Our readers know of our fondness for Athens and our close proximity making it a fun destination for us on the weekends or even on a weeknight. Transmetropolitan continues to be one of our favorite spots for pizza even in a town crowded with pizza places. Just a word to the wise! Guten appetit!
