The Most Romantic Restaurants in Atlanta for Valentines Day
Whether you’ve been married for years or have just met the love of your life, Valentines Day is a wonderful time to share an intimate meal together in a romantic setting. The longer you’ve been together, the more there is a need for something different to keep that spark alive and we hope you’ll try one of the restaurants on this list that you have never been to before.
The reason we’re running this story a couple of weeks in advance of Valentines Day is that you need to start preparing RIGHT NOW for that special dinner. Valentines Day is the #1 day for dining out according to the National Restaurant Association (the #2 slot belongs to Mothers Day), so you need to prepare for big crowds. Since Valentines Day falls on a Sunday this year, many couples with children may opt to celebrate their Valentines Day on Saturday night since Sunday is a “school night”. Knowing this, early birds might also try to beat the crowds by celebrating their Valentines Day on Friday night. My point is this – its Valentines Day WEEKEND. Unless you’re going to celebrate with a lunch, expect dinner to be packed so avoid the wait and make reservations. Assuming, of course, the restaurant accepts reservations.
Included in our list, are restaurants that we have personally visited recently and we’ve had an exceptional experience. There are many, many other Atlanta restaurants that should probably be on this list, but we just haven’t been there yet! You’ll find we’ve included restaurants in Atlanta and beyond, just in case you want to make it a day trip! Our criteria is pretty simple – great food, excellent service, and mainly, someplace that caters to you both so you can fully enjoy the time you spend together! Before you make a decision, you might want to read our article 4 WAYS TO END THE “I DON’T KNOW, WHERE DO YOU WANT TO EAT?” EXCHANGE WITH YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER particularly if you’ve been together for a period of time. The restaurant that Melanie and I will be spending our Valentines Day together is il Giallo Osteria & Bar. We had an absolutely splendid meal there when we visited our first time in January and cannot wait to try the other things on the menu that looked SO GOOD! You can make reservations via OpenTable directly from their website.
If you’re looking to make more of a day trip for your Valentines Day, consider Bone Island Grillhouse in Eatonton. It’s a super easy drive out I-20 east, has spectacular lakefront views and we’ve visited there multiple times and had nothing but good times. They open at 4pm, so get there early to get a great seat and watch the sunset on the lake together.
Another nice day trip is to Athens, fondly known as the Classic City. Make reservations for South Kitchen + Bar and enjoy a fantastic meal set in an old historic building that used to function as a grand hotel. One fun idea, particularly if you are a UGA fan, is to plan a scavenger hunt to locate all of the 36 bulldog statues in Athens. [see map]
One of the real (pun intended) gems that we’ve come across lately, has been Reel Seafood in downtown Woodstock. As I said in our review, this place is PHENOMENAL! Whether you choose the delicious seafood or the coffee-crusted Filet Mignon, you’re going to be raving about this restaurant! Get the Lobster Mac & Cheese as a side to share – it’s TO DIE FOR!
We had a very memorable dinner at The Peach and the Porkchop. With meat flown in daily from Pittsburgh, you’ll experience some of the best that Atlanta has to offer for northern-style sandwiches and subs, but there is a HUGE menu to choose from. The restaurant itself has a great vibe with its rustic wood and rock architecture. Grab a booth for some added privacy!
In a small, unassuming building off the main drag in Conyers you’ll find Seven Gables Restaurant. You’d never guess that the chef hails from the south of France and has served at some of the finest restaurants Atlanta has ever known! This is fine dining at its finest! You’ll both be spoiled rotten!
I met Atlanta foodie celebrity @sashaeats for dinner at Wisteria and we enjoyed a marvelous meal in the heart of Inman Park. The service will pamper you but the food will delight you! The Crab Bisque is awesome, but you CANNOT leave without ordering the Braised Greens Mac & Cheese.
When we discovered Mystic Grill in Covington we really unearthed something that we have grown to love more and more! Our first time there was fantastic, but as we’ve returned to visit again we just keep having a great time and have enjoyed some awesome meals there. We’re just glad Mystic Grill is close to home so we can go more often!
If you don’t have time to go to New York for the weekend, but you guys are dying to go to a New York deli, you cannot get closer than The General Muir in Emory/Druid Hills. The burgers are known as some of Atlanta’s best and the pastrami will make you think you’re in the Big Apple!
Venkman’s is a music venue for foodies! Forget what you know about bar food, because Venkman’s food is nothing short of spectacular. Buy tickets online early and show up early because if you want to rock out on Valentine’s Day you need to get your act together!
You will rejoice and shout hallelujah at Revival in Decatur. Celebrity Chef Kevin Gillespie, widely recognized in Atlanta for his renowned Gunshow restaurant, brings Southern food into the 21st century in a quaint, full restored house in Decatur. You’ll feel like you’re eating in a chef’s private home!
For a close getaway, check out The Farmhouse at Serenbe. This restored farmhouse set at the front of the community known for sustainability serves a meal that will rock your world. We love to get a table in the sunroom because it’s got such a wonderful view. If you drive an electric car, park up front and fill your battery while you fill your tummy!
Just off the square in downtown Lawrenceville is Local Republic and this is one of our favorites! With an extensive selection of craft beers, Local Republic is a foodies dream for a casual, laid back meal in an intimate setting.
In the trendy Westside Provision District, Chef Ford Fry’s JCT Kitchen & Bar makes for an elegant romantic dinner. Each dish is a delight and the service there is the royal treatment. Reservations are being accepted and the have a special for $60/pp that includes a four course meal.
For something more casual, Brick Store Pub on the square in Decatur features an excellent charcuterie to start your meal, craft beers to wet your whistle and some really awesome entrées. I like the Pierogi Primavera! It’s right on the MARTA line so if you live near MARTA you don’t even have to drive!
For one of the ultimate seafood experiences Atlanta has to offer, Lure in Midtown makes an ideal romantic setting for Valentines Day. You will be pampered and the food will absolutely WOW you. Make reservations early though because Lure will get booked up quick!
Piccolo’s Italian Steakhouse give you a choice of both Italian food and some great steaks. Located just east of Athens in Watkinsville, Piccolo’s makes for a great “date night” any time of the year. We’ve been here numerous times and have had a wonderful time on every occasion!
We had a tremendous time at Wahoo Grill in Decatur. The food is over-the-top awesome and the service was exemplary. I thought the Red Snapper with couscous was awesome but you cannot – I repeat cannot miss the desserts!
Near the park in Lilburn is 1910 Public House that serves some of the best food in Atlanta right to the heart of Gwinnett County. If you are looking for a splendid meal and aren’t interested in driving to downtown or Midtown, this is as good as it gets OTP!
Legal Seafood is one of our favorite downtown dinner destinations. Valet park and take the elevator to the next floor for Legal Seafood. The downtown views are spectacular, the service is out of this world and the food is simply fantastic.
The Shed at Glenwood is one of those places that will knock your socks off with how delicious their food is. The restaurant is both elegant and stylish yet casual and laid back. Whatever mood you’re in, you are going to have a great time at The Shed at Glenwood.
Valentines Day is one meal where couples can spend a few hours with one another, away from children and other distractions just to be with one another and tell each other “I’m so glad I’m with you”! Melanie and I wish each of you a happy Valentines Day. And hey, if you’re single, just grab a few friends and y’all go out and have some fun! Guten appetit!
