When we arrived at Stoney River, it was just beginning to get dark and we arrived at the perfect time. Soon after we were seated, we noticed there wasn’t but a few tables available so be sure to make reservations – especially on the weekends. It had been a while since our last visit to Stoney River and it is such a treat! Although this is a chain restaurant owned by J. Alexander, it holds on to a very homey, welcoming feeling and that comes through with their staff who were so kind and gracious to us.

We were seated right away and greeted by our server. We soon had drinks and bread service. Danger, Will Robinson, danger! These rolls will make you delete your personal trainer’s number from your phone! OMG – they’re like donuts – right down to the sugary coating. SO ADDICTIVE!

Next up was one of our favorite appetizers, deviled eggs! The thing that sets these apart from the others is the tiny strips of candied bacon on each egg. It’s simply heaven! What a great beginning to the meal.

Melanie ordered the Filet Oscar with Béarnaise sauce and Grilled Asparagus. I ordered the Oscar Filet also but with the Au Gratin Potatoes and the Creamed Spinach. Stoney River hit it out of the park on this one. This steak is on par with anything you’d get at Capital City Grille or Ruth’s Chris. You could cut it with a fork! The meat is so tender it’s just a pleasure to eat. The Oscar crabmeat topping is an upcharge, but well worth it in my opinion.

The Au Gratin Potatoes was like nothing I’d ever had before. Thinly sliced, the potatoes are layered so that the dish more closely resembles a potato lasagna than a traditional au gratin. The result is delightful and it was truly enjoyable.

The Creamed Spinach was so full of flavor and delicious, it was the surprise of the evening. The sides are big enough to share, but you won’t want to share this dish!

We were so full, we had to pass on dessert. We did linger a while over a coffee to round out a perfect evening meal. Stoney River does it right – the food is fantastic, the service will pamper you and the dining experience is splendid. You’ll find nothing but enjoyment here. Guten appetit!
