REVIEW: Hugo’s Oyster Bar, Roswell, North Fulton

Hugo’s Oyster Bar was at the top of our list of 20 BEST ATLANTA RESTAURANTS TO VISIT IN 2016 mainly because readers have recommended this place to us so many times. If you can’t make it New Orleans for Mardi Gras, Hugo’s looks like they’re going to be packed on Fat Tuesday as they were already gearing up for it in the middle of January!

We met our server (who I should mention was spectacular throughout our meal), had our refreshments and were soon ready to begin. We started with a half pound of hot steamed Peel and Eat Shrimp. Not only were these shrimp huge, they had such a natural sweetness in the meat and tasted OH SO GOOD! This is a really good sign to us that Hugo’s Oyster Bar has fresh seafood, they know how to prepare it right and get it to your table quickly so you can really enjoy it the way its meant to be! I also need to point out, that we received 11 of these large shrimp to share, not just the five pictured on my plate.

Another appetizer that caught our eye that we couldn’t resist was the Crab Imperial that consists of a hot crab meat dip served with think toast points. This dip was so good you could eat it with a fork! Amazing!

Melanie was already starting to feel full so she went with the Cream of Asparagus Soup. Melanie enjoyed this creamy delight and thought that the soup was delicious!

I chose the Cajun Blackened North Carolina Rainbow Trout. The portion size was extremely generous, serving two very nice sized fillets. The seasoning was perfect and the fish was prepared nicely so that the fish was tender, flaky and juicy.

Per our server’s recommendation, I tried the Creamed Corn Chowder with Jalapeño and Bacon. Melanie was a little gun shy about trying it with the jalapeños it there, but it was a very subtle flavoring and not overpowering at all. This is something you have to try when you visit Hugo’s Oyster Bar.

After such a great meal, we felt we owed it to our readers to sample a dessert. We chose the Chocolate Lava Cake with Vanilla Gelato. This is so rich and tasty, it’s the perfect end to the meal.

Hugo’s Oyster Bar brings a taste of New Orleans right to your table. If oysters is your thing, you’ll be in heaven. If not, you have plenty of things to choose from. If you are a fan of creole cooking, you’ll feel right at home at Hugo’s Oyster Bar. Guten appetit!
