REVIEW: Norman’s Landing, Cumming, Forsyth

We had just left the Earth Fare Pre-Opening Tour and we were starving. Both Melanie and I had skipped lunch and we’d been on our feet for about an hour and half so we were both tired and hungry. Fortunately, we came to the right place. Once we got seated and started to eat, I had a revelation. A good restaurant doesn’t have to be pricy, in a trendy location or have an eclectic menu. A good restaurant is located at the intersection of good food and great people. That’s what we found at Norman’s Landing.

Although we’ve been trying to stay away from fried foods, one of our favorite starters at any seafood restaurant is fried catfish. At Norman’s Landing, they call this Catfish Fingers on their dinner menu. They are lightly breaded and portioned perfectly for an appetizer.

Melanie went with a Salmon Salad that comes with marinated grilled salmon served over the house salad. She really enjoyed the dressing and found it to be thick, rich and full of flavor. When you are eating a salad, the dressing makes or breaks the meal. No one carries around salad dressing in their purse, so the dressing a restaurant serves cannot be underestimated.

I chose the Grilled Catfish done cajun style with blackening seasoning. It was done perfectly! The seasoning was the right amount and the fish was light, flaky and still juicy. It was really done very well and I was pretty impressed.

The restaurant is “ol skool” – it’s been there since there was NOTHING else around on what’s now is a very busy exit on GA400. Check this out – they even have a game room complete with ping-pong table and arcade games. I imagine that’s pretty cool if you have kids who get bored easily when the adults are talking. Norman’s Landing has a cabin-like feel that is casual, comfortable and it’s a super place to enjoy a meal with friends. We had a great meal, received awesome service by their friendly staff and it didn’t blow the bank! Guten appetit!
