REVIEW: Hi Life Restaurant, Norcross, Peachtree Corners, Gwinnett
Once again this week, we broke from the norm and left the office for lunch to venture out to points unknown which landed us at Hi Life Restaurant. A few weeks ago when we were coming back to the office from our review of HOLA Taqueria & Bar, we spotted Hi Life Restaurant and made a mental note that we needed to check it out.
From the outside, its difficult to discern the goodness that is in store for you inside, but once we entered I knew we’d come to the right place. The vibe is upscale, yet casual and I could see that the place was filled with people who had left the office for lunch or were having a business lunch. We were shown to a large comfortable booth, met our server and soon had our drinks and were looking over the lunch menu.
On this rainy afternoon, our server suggested the soup of the day, which happened to be Tomato Basil Soup. I must have this plastered on my forehead, because we’ve had Tomato Basil Soup several times over the last few weeks and I love it! As with the other Tomato Basil Soups we’ve tried, this one has its own unique character. What was intriguing to me was how rich and light it was. I would almost describe it as “frothy” like a cappuccino but at the same time it still held on to a very thick consistency.
My co-worker and I discussed both the consistency and the color and we guessed that they must have put a cream into it but we wanted the real answer. So when our server came back, I asked how it was prepared. He said he really wasn’t sure but that he would ask the chef with our permission. Our server returned and we were introduced to Dontrell Ham, Executive Chef and General Manager of Hi Life Restaurant. He explained exactly how it was prepared, and I will omit his answer because I believe in discretion :-). In keeping with our theme of discretion, I did not reveal the professional nature of our visit.
For my lunch, I had ordered the Sautéed Shrimp Tacos. This is a wonderfully complex mix of flavors as the shrimp and lettuce are combined with a cucumber-mango salsa and topped with a jalapeño remoulade. I enjoyed this selection immensely! The flavor of the jalapeño was very subtle so don’t let that scare you if you are not a fan of jalapeños.
We had a wonderful lunch – the food was great and the service was excellent. I am sure that we will be returning there more often since this is so close to our Peachtree Corners office. Hi Life Restaurant makes and excellent choice for lunch or dinner and we think that you will enjoy yourself here. Guten appetit!
