REVIEW: Greenwood Ice Cream, Chamblee, DeKalb
WARNING – you are about to receive inside knowledge of a trade secret that Atlanta restaurateurs have known since 1952 – Greenwood Ice Cream. In a landscape now dotted with trendy gourmet ice cream vendors, Greenwood is in an industrial building on Peachtree Industrial Blvd in Chamblee. They don’t do a whole lot of retail, and I was made aware of this through a client who has been getting ice cream pies there for years.
On this occasion, we were celebrating some birthdays in the office and we got the Mud Pie and the Turtle Pie. Both are covered with pecans and taste incredible. When it comes to ice cream pies, one normally thinks of Dairy Queen or Baskin Robbins but Greenwood Ice Cream puts both to shame. It’s a special treat that is really an awesome change from a traditional birthday cake.
Whether you have something special to celebrate or not, Greenwood Ice Cream is the place to go for a dessert to remember. It’s not trendy and its not fashionable. Their website looks like it was built in the 90s and their industrial location long before that! But, the ice cream pies are something to write home about! Guten appetit!
