ROAD TRIP: The Egg & I, Panama City Beach, Florida
It’s a fateful day when you wake up and realize your trip is over and it’s time to go home. You can cry, wail and gnash your teeth but the fact remains you have to pack the car and leave Panama City Beach. Fortunately, The Egg & I was there to ease our pain and get us prepared properly for the trip home (which seemed longer and a whole lot less fun than the trip going to the beach).
Almost unbelievably, we arrived at a rare moment when we were able to be seated almost right away and soon had juice and coffee while were perused the menu. I’m an early riser so I very well could’ve eaten lunch just the same but we’d decided to do breakfast together.
Melanie chose the Scrambled Eggs and Cheese Grits while I opted for the build-your-own omelet with gouda, apple spiced chicken sausage and asparagus. Melanie enjoyed her eggs and grits but tried not to eat so much as to get full right before a long journey. I don’t let bother me and I was able to finish every bit of my omelet and roasted potatoes. The omelet was prepared well and was done well enough to be dry and solid without being mushy or watery. I really enjoyed the combined flavors of the gouda and the chicken sausage and you could definitely taste the apple in the sausage. The asparagus was cooked just to my liking so it has a little toughness to it and it’s not too soft. Great job in the kitchen!
Not only did The Egg & I knock it out of the park preparing the food, our server was simply outstanding and took care of every need we had during the meal. I especially enjoyed seeing the manager come by diners’ tables and check to make sure everything was okay and pitching in to lend a hand wherever he was needed. It’s that kind of teamwork that makes restaurants a success! The only thing wrong with this place was that we didn’t try it until our last day but that doesn’t stop us from adding The Egg & I to our list of best restaurants in Panama City Beach. Guten appetit!
