On a previous windy day we had such a good time at The Red Bar in Grayton Beach, on this windy day we were really excited about visiting Runaway Island. We’d heard about the spectacular views and couldn’t wait to soak in some of that along with exploring what they were serving for lunch.

It looked like there was no one there when we got there just before noon, but almost everyone was seated outside. It was cool and very windy though, so we opted for indoor seating. Our server arrived and soon had us drinks and we were looking over the menu. We decided to get started with some Stuffed Mushrooms. These things are addictive and one of the best appetizers we’d enjoyed in our stay at Panama City Beach. They’re done a little different, as the mushroom caps are upside down, then layered with a generous portion of crab meat stuffing, covered with monterey jack cheese and baked with a lemon butter drizzle. These are NOT tiny – they’re huge and a great value for an appetizer.

Melanie chose “The Wilson“, which is a half pound burger complete with cheese, tomato, lettuce and pickles. The burger was done to perfection for Melanie with no pink in the center. I had to help her out because she couldn’t finish it, and the meat had a wonderful flavor and seasoned just right. The Ciabatta bun is really a lot of bread so you can skip that if you want and there’s still plenty there for you.

I went with the Blackened Fish Tacos which were really good but no where near as much food as Melanie’s burger. The tacos though tasted great and I enjoyed the mix of the taco with the cole slaw combined with the Lime Cilantro Aiola sauce. The homemade fries that accompanied it were pretty killer as well. It made for a great lunch.

The crowd at dinner is crushing even in the off-season, so lunch is a great choice to make Runaway Island your lunch destination. The food is great, the service was exceptional and the view are breathtaking making Runaway Island one of our MUST VISIT on our list of best restaurants in Panama City Beach. Guten appetit!
