ROAD TRIP: The Back Porch Seafood & Oyster House, Panama City Beach, Florida
We couldn’t believe the traffic and the volume of people around Pier Park in Panama City Beach on a Monday night during the off-season. I kept having flashbacks to my younger years going to Las Vegas it was so busy. The folks at The Back Porch Seafood & Oyster House are used to it though and we were seated in 10-15 minutes as promised.
We were soon seated and met our server who fixed us up with some refreshments and was soon answering our questions about the menu. He was very confident and was able to answer all of our questions. Throughout the meal, he took excellent care of us even though he had a bunch of tables he was working with.
We got started with an appetizer of the Hot Spinach and Crab Dip. There was plenty of chips and the dip was surprisingly more carb than spinach. The chips were thin, so they weren’t filling, but thick enough to support scooping up plentiful amounts of dip. It was delicious and a real treat.
After the appetizer came the salads and I could tell that if you finished the House Salad, you weren’t going to be able to finish your entrée. The salads had an excellent mix of greens. Along with the fresh cucumbers, cherry tomatoes and croutons; the rich, thick dressing made this salad very enjoyable.
Melanie chose the Fried Grouper with mashed potatoes and corn. She liked the grouper and thought it was just the right amount of breading. She thought the corn was overdone and mushy. The mashed potatoes were really tasty with an excellent flavor to them without being overly seasoned. She couldn’t finish hers so we got the rest of it in a to-go box.
I had the Fisherman’s Platter that comes with grouper, tuna and amberjack. I like mine blackened and they did an excellent job of it. The fish was very moist – the best I’ve had at the beach so far. I really liked the different flavors of the fish and getting to sample each was delightful.
We were so full, we skipped dessert and after a long day at the beach, we were wiped out. The Back Porch Seafood & Oyster Bar was by far our best meal since we’d gotten here and certainly makes our MUST-SEE list for Panama City Beach. Guten appetit!
