ROAD TRIP: Double D’s Coffee & Desserts , Asheville NC

Yes readers, your eyes do NOT deceive you! This coffee shop is on a bus. And NO – the bus doesn’t go anywhere. What Double D’s Coffee & Desserts does provide however is great coffee and a great gimmick.

The bus is not especially roomy (remember, this is NOT an American bus – it’s a British bus) so if you’re prone to being claustrophobic this might not be the coffee shop for you. However, if you like uniqueness – you can’t beat this place!

You enter the bus in the standard way (close the door behind you, you’re letting the heat out!). The bottom “floor” of the bus is the lobby and the kitchen where you order your drinks and the server prepares your beverages.

Note the netbook on the counter in the photo below with browser open to pandora.com streaming music throughout the bus! Way cool!

I had my usual cappuccino and Melanie opted just for a Coke. I should also add that in addition to drinks, iced coffees and the usual variety of coffee and such, they also offer a nice sampling of desserts. We had a great conversation with our friends and were soon joined by some more friends. We hadn’t been there long and we had quickly overtaken the bus. Let me tell you – we had a great time chatting on the bus! Upstairs you have NONE of the cramped, potentially claustrophobic feeling that you may have had downstairs. It’s just a flat out good time.
