Athens Restaurant Reviews

Mellow Mushroom, Athens GA

Mellow Mushroom is an Athens institution located in the historic Michael Brothers Building (interesting info on the building history) it shares a grand hall opening with Doc Cheys and offers plenty of seating space which is often filled to capacity.

This Saturday night was no different and the place was PACKED! We were told it would be a 35 minute wait but we found seats immediately in the bar area and ordered there.

We selected a Mega-Veggie pizza and started out with two Lil Tossed salads. The salads were a ‘lil’ disappointing and they were really nothing but lettuce, tomato and cucumbers and really lacked any character. We probably could’ve tweaked this into something we would have enjoyed though but the “stock offering” was unappealing.

The pizza was really good but it was a little dry and could’ve used more sauce and cheese in order to really make it what it’s creator intended it to be.

If you’re looking for a quiet, intimate place for a meal, this is NOT the place! This is 1) downtown Athens 2) filled with college kids and 3) Saturday night 4) TVs showing sports 5) filled to the brim with customers = it’s LOUD (yet fun and quite entertaining!).

You’d be amiss if you skipped Mellow Mushroom! Guten appetit!

Yikes dude. You will review anything that serves food. I’m trying to figure out if you are doing this for you or for others? Is this for real? I’m sure we’ll see a review of Taco Bell in Chicago next. Why not take this a tad bit more serious instead of dumping more randomness into the blog-o-sphere? Don’t we have enough of this already? With the name food critic one would assume some sort of filter on what it is you are review. Go find something we haven’t seen a million times, and introduce your readers to it, why the rehash…?

Ha! yes, we like to get around… and let’s keep it real! We do NOT get to eat at 5 star restaurants all the time (nor do our readers). Donations however will be graciously accepted 😉

We like to mix it up. As you can tell over the course of time, we’ve reviewed Five Guys, other chains (such as Ted’s Montana Grill and pizza places (like Antico).

    Thanks for your comments!

Nice review. As intended, it tells me exactly what to expect & is helpful since ‘loud’ isn’t appealing to me.
