Buckhead Diner, Atlanta GA
Buckhead Diner likes to model itself after a casual 50s diner but do not be fooled – you are in for a pampering in both food and service.
I had called ahead for “priority seating” but found we had arrived early enough (around 6:30pm on a Thursday) where is really was not required. The restaurant filled to capacity rapidly though so I would STRONGLY suggest calling ahead. I was told it would cut the wait in half. Consider yourself warned – I can only imagine what Buckhead Diner can be like on the weekend!
We were seated promptly and we were absolutely doted on by our server, Chaney. She took wonderful care of us throughout our meal, was very friendly and always had a smile on her face whenever she checked on us.
We started out with some homemade potato chips covered with bleu cheese.
What a great way to start the meal! The chips were done perfectly and the bleu cheese was an unexpected compliment to this dish as I cannot ever recall having it served like that but, let me assure you – it worked!
We decided to go all the way and order the steaks with red potatoes stuffed with asiago. OH MY! Talk about melt it your mouth and done right!
What was really special was the accompanying sauce – sweet, tangy yet not overpowering. It was the perfect compliment! The real treasure though were the potatoes! I cannot describe the delight you will have eating these! They are so good! Just the right amount of cheese and garlic made for such a wonderful combination and tasted SO perfect with the steak.
The ONLY thing that could’ve made this meal any better was dessert. I had sneaked a peek during our initial review of the menu while ordering our entrees and that planted a terribly tempting seed in my mind. We settled on the brownie sundae.
As you can see in the photo to the right, it was totally sinful and yet disappeared with surprising ease. The picture doesn’t do it justice but, the brownie is on the bottom with ice cream on top and generous amounts of cool whip. Surrounding it is crushed pieces of chocolate and butterfinger (I think). In any case, you would be doing yourself a great disservice if you and your guests abdicated the important responsibility of dessert. It would be such a shame.
Buckhead Diner is a good time and there are menu items which fit in with whatever you would prefer to spend. While it doesn’t have a broad menu selection, what they offer is knock-outta-the-park good! Buckhead Diner is certainly a MUST SEE on your list of Atlanta dining. Guten appetit!
