South City Kitchen, Midtown, Atlanta, GA
We’d been meaning to get down to South City Kitchen for a while now. When our neighbors invited us to dinner and asked if we could choose, I had just the opportunity!
South City Kitchen will warm your Southern heart but this food is prepared so even our Northern cousins will enjoy it.
There is ample parking close by and, after having dropped off the ladies, it was a very short walk to the restaurant.
We had made reservations for 7pm and so glad that we did! South City Kitchen had a good many diners there already. We were seated right away and our server, Rocky, took wonderful care of us throughout the meal. She was able to thoroughly answer our many questions about the menu promptly and with confidence.
We all chose to begin the meal with Old Charleston She-Crab Soup. Oh my! THIS was the way to start the meal! The taste of sherry is quite noticeable and it is very thick and creamy.
I chose the Cornmeal-Crisped Catfish, Melanie selected the Buttermilk Fried Chicken and our guests went with the Seafood Jambalaya and Pan-Seared Georgia Mountain Trout.
We also ordered some side dishes to share – creamy mac-and-cheese and creamy stone-ground grits.
We were particularly impressed with the flavor of each dish. While this is Southern cooking, right down to the collard greens, this is certainly not your grandma’s cooking which means that even those unaccustomed to traditional Southern cooking will be able to enjoy themselves at South City Kitchen. Each of us was surprised at the portion size – plenty to eat and we were all quite satisfied.
My only regret was I was unable to convince my fellow diners to indulge in dessert, which Rocky informed us were all made on-premises. Oh well, perhaps next time!
Needless to say, South City Kitchen is a great place to experience Southern cooking and we absolutely loved it. Mark it down as a MUST SEE on your list of Atlanta fine dining. Guten appetit!
