ROAD TRIP: MacElwee’s Seafood, Tybee Island, GA

piratefest We came to the island that morning seeking that perfect spot from which to view the PirateFest parade. When we drove by we saw Rick setting up the umbrella on the front porch of MacElwee’s and decided that THIS was the perfect spot! We were soon seated at our hightop, under our umbrella with some refreshing beverages in hand. Unfortunately, they do not actually serve food on the porch. Rick, our server who took absolutely wonderful care of us throughout our meal, told us the owner does not allow that because of it’s close proximity to the street and fear of the cars blowing sand up. Okay, whatever, right?

We had a great spot to watch the parade and weren’t going to let anything mess that up so we took turns going inside, eating, and then returning to our hightop in anticipation of the parade. Melanie was eating light and chose the Grilled Chicken Salad with bleu cheese dressing which she really enjoyed. I got the fried shrimp and scallops plate and it was AWESOME!.

We come to Tybee at least twice a year, sometimes more, and MacElwee’s is a favorite of ours – good food, great service and a casual, laid-back atmosphere that Tybee Island is famous for. MacElwee’s is a MUST SEE when you come to Tybee! Guten Appetit!

P.S. I don’t feel this article would be complete without a picture from the parade!
