Parker’s on Ponce, Decatur, GA
We picked a beautiful fall evening to head to Decatur and try Parker’s on Ponce. We’d been by there several times visiting other places in the area and we were intrigued. This weekend I had been working some long hours and was really craving steak. Parker’s on Ponce is THE place.
I made reservations about an hour prior to our arrival and we were seated right away. Gail was our server and she took wonderful care of us and made the meal very pleasant.
Parker’s decor is both elegant and casual with a nice blend that leaves you very relaxed and just waiting to dine. The staff pampers you and is very friendly.
Unfortunately, this is where the photographs end. Normally we try to shoot everything we can without being noticed but I began to feel that the flash photography was being a distraction to other diners and I didn’t want our cover blown so we had to lay low the rest of the meal.
We both ordered the 10oz Filet Mignon. The steaks come with a single side which is enough to share. We chose the creamed spinach and the macaroni and cheese with mushrooms.
My steak was done perfectly and seasoned exceptionally well. Melanie’s was slightly undercooked and was sent back but returned quickly and done properly. The filets were absolutely delightful! It was an awesome cut of beef as well. Whoever is selected these cuts deserves a hug!
The sides need some work though. The creamed spinach was more soupy creamy and needed more flavor. The macaroni and cheese with mushrooms needed more cheese as they ended up being dry. We disagreed on one point – I felt that the mushrooms were just enough to provide a nice flavor without being overwhelming. Melanie felt the flavor was underwhelming and need more mushrooms to really make this side come alive.
Parker’s on Ponce is quite nice and our meal was very enjoyable. We were delayed slightly leaving which allowed Gail, our server, to catch up to us after noticing our card with final payment (see below).
We just imagine the reactions that the servers have when they see our card tucked in with the signed receipt. Gail casually said, “Oh, you sneaky food critics!” playfully. I responded by telling her we enjoyed the meal. Gail said we really missed out by not trying the cheesecake. Gail, I couldn’t agree more!
So, when you visit Parker’s on Ponce you really must try the cheesecake! Parker’s on Ponce rates a MUST SEE on our list of Atlanta dining. Guten appetit!
